A Farm with a
table to share

FARM TO TABLE × Locally Sourced × Crafted with Love

Our Values

The food we serve is raised and prepared with the same care that we serve at our family table: simple, traditionally, from scratch and with love.

We practice land-healing agriculture and supply the vast majority of the food on the menu from our 300-acre farm, kitchen garden, and the farms and gardens of our friends and neighbors. We also purchase from local and regional vendors who share our values.

We treat everyone and everything — customers, staff members, vendors, livestock, companion animals, earthworms, soil microbes, the Haw River, our shared atmosphere — with reverence and respect. We believe in and pay a living wage. Hence the name, Reverence Farms and Cafe.

Farmer John of Dinner Bell Farm NC delivering his loved lettuce mix. He grows produce on nutrient-dense soils with his wife, Stephanie Munz Campbell, who also works with the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association. (Check out Dinner Bell's CSA.) This is local economy. Malik (left) and Jen celebrate every nourishing transaction. Jen also painted the "reverence" definition on the wall in back.

The table we share is sacred, and we value the connections between neighbors. We desire to continually create a place where conversations lead to greater understanding and love between us. In as much as we are able, the animals and plants in our care live according to their design — our cows, sheep and goats graze and browse rotated pastures; the pigs, turkeys and chickens scratch, dig and root through continually fresh forage and are fed a locally milled, certified organic, whole-food ration. Our beef and dairy calves drink whole milk on mama cows until at least seven months of age, and our animals are generally left intact and unadulterated.

We believe the regeneration of our communities begins with the regeneration of soil. We compost everything possible in the cafe and on the farm, turning what would be a liability for our children’s future into a living asset.

Our foods contain little or no undesirables. We strive to avoid genetically modified organisms (GMOs), trans-fats, processed salt, monosodium glutamate (MSG, including hidden forms), chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, flavoring agents and anything else that wasn’t in grandma’s pantry. We believe in the inherent health of natural systems, and strive for wholeness in every way.

It is our privilege to serve you, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do so. Your presence here contributes to life, and life in abundance.

share the GREEN

St. Patrick's Day was a lot of fun at Reverence Farms Café. We served traditional Irish fare and beer and a good time was had by all. The Stout Chocolate Cake and Lamb Stew were the stars of the show!

share the love

On February 11th & 14th we had our first events at the Café with a four course plated dinner paired with beer and wine. All our guests left with a smile and satisfied appetite. Both nights were truly amazing with love being shared with all.

Our farm

Reverence Farms is a diversified, thriving polyculture where animals are treated with reverence and grace, earthworms are cherished, and all critters eat a species-appropriate diet. We offer pastured eggs from chickens fed a locally milled and organic ration, and our hens are moved to fresh pasture daily where they eat a full complement of bugs and fresh forages. Our broiler chickens get a fresh salad bar daily.

Our poultry and pig rations contain a diversity of proteins (including flax and field peas) in order to improve the taste and nutritional profile of our products and reduce our reliance on soy. The soy in our rations are different from conventional feedstuffs in that it’s derived from whole, roasted organic soybeans instead of soybean meal, an industrial waste product customarily fed to livestock.

The hens follow our dairy cows and sheep in a rotation that takes into account the need of the grass to regenerate in order to provide the best nutrition for all the animals and to allow the soil to capture the carbon from the atmosphere. We raise our dairy calves on mama cows, with all the milk they can drink and the normalcy of running in a mixed-aged herd. We do this to ensure the best and brightest dairy herd for the future, and in order to provide an outstanding life to even the young males, which later become our signature ambrosia beef.

Our commitment to whole food means that we are also diligent about the ingredients in our value-added products. That means our sausages are not only free from MSG directly, but also are free of “spice extractives” and other fractionated ingredients that often contain undisclosed sources of free glutamates. Our bacon is cured the old-fashioned way, using just salt (no nitrates) and molasses, and our bulk sausages are free of sugar. We started this farm as a homestead to feed our family and we are serious about what it means to say, “this is food.”
